Kings of Leon want to let their fans know that new music is in production for 2016.
Singer Caleb Followill and drummer Nathan Followill told the Associated Press in an end of the year interview that they have begun recording the band’s seventh studio album – their first since 2013’s “Mechanical Bull.”
“We’ve already started pre-production in our studio for the next record, but the main thing on the calendar for 2016 is getting the record finished,” Nathan said.
The pair didn’t discuss an album release date or a possible tour but expressed their excitement for new music. “We enjoy this part of the process. Obviously, there’s a lot of work that goes into it, and it can get stressful at times, but we’re all in a good place, and we’re having fun with it, and we’re all excited to do something new,” Caleb told the AP.
Instead of recording in Nashville, Tennessee, their home for the past 15 years, Caleb noted that they plan to go back to Los Angeles for inspiration and to “try to get a little change of scenery.”
“Our first two albums we recorded in L.A., so we’re going to try to go back and see if it inspires us,” he said. “If it doesn’t, we always have a studio at home, so we can always come back.”
The band is no stranger to success. At the 51st Grammy Awards in 2009, “Only By the Night” was nominated for “Best Rock Album” and their hit “Sex on Fire” won for “Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.” The following year, in 2010, they won the Grammy for “Record of the Year” for their song “Use Somebody.”
As for some of their New Year’s resolutions, Caleb said, “I am just looking forward to enjoying what we are doing a little more, not getting overwhelmed by the moments…and try to be a better me.”
Nathan added, “2016 is going to be fun with the new record and all that. I am sure some of us are probably going to grow our families. Some of us will not. 2016 is going to be a good year, I got a feeling.”
